My father, David Bowser Sr., worked his way up from sweeping floors at Burger King to becoming Vice President of a franchise group operating 17 restaurants. While the title was impressive, it didn't offer the independence he truly wanted.
In the mid-1990s, he took a leap of faith and started a kitchen cabinet refacing company with a partner. I was around 10 or 12 years old when that business began.
Over time it grew into a successful operation — multiple crews, completing kitchens every week. By the time I was 17, I started working in the shop during summers, building laminate countertops and learning the fundamentals of the trade.
After graduating, I began installing kitchens and later worked for another contractor where I expanded my skills — building decks, finishing basements, remodeling kitchens, and learning the full scope of residential construction.
Meanwhile, my father's original partnership had begun to deteriorate. He felt increasingly pushed out of the company he had helped build. In 2004, we decided to start something of our own.
Our vision was simple: create a one-stop kitchen remodeling company that stays small, focuses on quality, and treats every home like it matters.
In the beginning we worked side by side on every installation. Within a few years, the company grew enough that my father stepped away from the job sites to focus on marketing, sales, and running the business — while I concentrated entirely on installation and craftsmanship.
That partnership lasted 16 years.
When the pandemic hit, we were forced to shut down for nearly two months. During that same time, my father became ill. We soon learned he had cancer.
As his health declined, I had to begin taking over every part of the business he had handled for years. He was still there to guide me through the systems and processes he had built.
In March of 2021, my father passed away.
Only then did I fully realize the incredible gift he had given me. For more than 16 years, he allowed me to focus entirely on mastering the craft of kitchen installation while he handled the business side. That foundation is what allowed me to step forward and continue what we had started together.
